When in Florida
Flamingo Gardens

Florida Scrub Lizard

For both Butterfly World and Flamingo Gardens, I suggest you set aside at least a day for exploration, especially if you're "into" animals, plants and trees, and photography. My mom and I did both these attractions within the same day and almost didn't get to see everything. And I would have loved to have taken more time to watch the animals for a little while longer than just glancing when passing by and stopping for a little more than a few seconds for a quick picture. Both of these places are pretty big, and both have a lot to see and watch, and take pictures of. They have some things in common, but are totally different places and attractions in my book. I highly recommend both.

Check out their site at  http://www.flamingogardens.org/ (copy and past address into your search bar) for admission prices, specials, et cetera.

At Flamingo Gardens, the first things we noticed were the little lizards literally all over the place. At the end of our visit, I was excited to discover what exactly these little lizards are on a poster, Florida Scrub Lizards. There were also a few cats just roaming about, and peacocks (but they seemed to be more focused in a single area), which are very photogenic.

A lady peacock. Though they aren't as beautiful as male peacocks in color, they pose to take beautiful photos.

About a quarter of the park is mostly for plants and trees, the great majority of Flamingo Gardens is for birds, and there are a few other animals, such as turtles, otters, large cats, and alligators, as well. We had coupon cards from our hotel to save us money, but got lucky and paid one admission for the both of us. We didn't have time to go and check out the historic house they have but ran out of time looking around and taking pictures of everything, though we were there for a few hours.

Of course, there are flamingos among the many birds in and outside the aviary at Flamingo Gardens, as well as birds of prey, ducks, pelicans, fishers, and what I came to call Florida birds. We even got to see a beautiful white swan among the populous.
My suggestions for a visit here are to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, since the park is almost completely outside and quite large, to bring quarters to feed to the birds if you would like to do so, and to bring a camera, as there are many places that are perfect for photo-taking with friends and family even if you aren't crazy about taking pictures of the animals.
If you have any questions, concerns or comments regarding my thoughts on this attraction, please leave them below. Thank you for reading!
