When in Florida

IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum

When my mother and I were in Florida on vacation a few months ago, we went to the International Game and Fish Association's Hall of Fame and Museum. We were surprised at how much we enjoyed ourselves there. It was a whole lot less boring than we expected and a lot more diverse in presentation than we could have imagined.
This attraction is not only for people who enjoy to fish and who are looking to learn about fishing, but also for those who enjoy wildlife, art, and history. The museum has more to offer to adults than expected and interactive learning for growing children.
A room decorated in antiques, with mannequins and everything.
In addition to the Fishing Hall of Fame and interesting Lobby area, there is an Orientation Theater, a large Wetlands and wildlife exhibits area, an Art gallery, a Junior Angler Room, a gallery for each Fish, Tackle, Catch, Places, World Records, and Legacy, a marina and lake where you will find scattered wildlife, a yacht, and another boat or two, a Learning Center, and a few Demo Areas. Another amazing feat is the Museum Store, which is great to look around in even if one cannot afford any of the cool creations.

IGFA Hall of Fame and Museum is very kid friendly, with many interactive exhibits, a Discovery Room, and much to learn of and about. This excursion could last long enough to be called a full day activity, but we only spent a few hours here because we didn't really partake in the interactive things and had no children with us.
In the Wetlands area, there are a lot of turtles, a variety of fish and birds, alligators, and we even saw a few hares running around. There is an aquarium with live specimens, such as starfish and crabs, in the Art gallery hall and an accompanying chart to aid visitors in identification. There are life-size statues of people, pictures of important people, antiques, and a quite a few varieties of many objects, such as reels, rods, and other fishing gear. There are trophies and paintings, stuffed fish everywhere, and something to learn around every corner and on every wall. They've got everything from stamps to video games, and something for everyone, young or old. And it was not expensive to get in either, very affordable compared to other attractions.

If you are really into fishing, hunting, and wildlife, another plus is that the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum is right beside a Bass Pro Shop, which has to be one of the number one stores for props. I recommend both places for anyone interested in unique museums and stores. I highly recommend the Hall of Fame and Museum for fisherman and children, and for anyone who likes zoos, since their wildlife area is pretty cool.

An interactive area.
